"Just breathe," Sarah whispered to herself, tracing patterns on the condensation of her kitchen window. The luxury car was new. The diamond ring on the woman's hand, sparkling in the sunlight, was new. And the renovations being carried out on the old woman's house were…well, they were beyond new. They were something else entirely.

She felt a hollowness in her stomach, a dizzying sensation. She'd always envied her neighbour, Mrs. Peterson's quiet life. Now, it felt like she had been living in a dream. A dream she no longer understood.

She grabbed a glass of water, her hand shaking so badly she almost dropped it. She needed to sit down. She needed to…what? She didn't know.
